The Western Wall Heritage Foundation on today lodged an official police complaint after a fraudulent solicitation appeared on eBay offering stones from the Kosel as a talisman for luck and blessing.
Rav Shmuel Rabinovich, chairman of the foundation and rov of the Kosel, was notified of the matter by Jews who saw the entry on e-Bay and found it to be sacrilegious.
Rav Rabinovich contacted e-Bay and asked that the entry be removed. He termed the sale and use of stones from the Kosel both a sacrilege explicitly forbidden by the Torah, as well as a violation of modern antiquities laws.
Nevertheless, the “Western Wall Jerusalem blessing stones” are still apparently for sale, at $4.99 apiece plus $9.99 for shipping. Five stones have already been sold, according to eBay.
Rav Rabinovich quoted Maran Rav Moshe Feinstein who writes in Igros Moshe that anyone committing such an act is embezzling sacred heavenly items and it is an aveirah. Furthermore, Rav Rabinovich explained, there is fraud involved, too, because Kosel stones do not possess power to heal and bless. On the contrary, he contended, they will confer a kelalah on whoever possesses them.

the listing states the stones come from the yard and not from the western wall. They may come from the houses that were demolished after 1967 or from minor renovations. Or, they may be a random piece of stone that has never been anywhere near the Kotel. I think it was better not to advertize this idiot, as he sold all nine that a few hours ago were listed as available.
