edward-snowden1Shortly after a US request for Edward Snowden’s extradition, the Hong Kong Government reported Sunday that the National Security Agency contractor – accused of leaking classified information about two NSA surveillance programs – had left voluntarily for a “third country.”

The Russian news agency Interfax quoted an Aerflot source as saying the airline had issued a ticket in Snowden’s name from Moscow to Cuba. This could be a diversion to mislead Washington about his destinaton.

The Russian president’s spokesman denied knowledge of his location or plans. According to Reuters, Wikileaks claimed to have helped the fleeing American win political asylum “in a democratic country” along with travel papers and safe exit from Hong Kong.
