Egypt Embarking On Effort To Quell Gaza Escalation, Midnight Ceasefire Reported

Egypt is said to be attempting to quell the military escalation on the Gaza Strip and has reportedly called on Palestinian militant groups to stop firing rockets towards Israel, Hebrew media reported on Tuesday.

After Gaza’s Islamist rulers Hamas and allied group Islamic Jihad announced joint responsibility for mortar rounds targeting the Jewish State, Egyptian intelligence reportedly contacted the groups and urged them to reign in the violence to prevent further escalation, Hadashot TV reported.

According to Palestinian officials, an Egyptian-brokered truce between Israel and Gaza factions will go into force at midnight.
