ehud-barakIsrael’s Minister of Defense discussed the attack in Syria that is attributed to Israel for the first time and said that all options are on the table with regards to Iran.

“The event that happened in Syria several days ago is proof that when we say something, we mean it. We are saying that we do not thing that the transferal of advanced weapon systems to Lebanon should be permitted,” said Ehud Barak at a conference in Germany.

This is the first time that Barak has referred to the attack attributed to Israel.

Barak also discussed the survival chances of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and said that “Assad’s downfall is expected to happen at any moment. This will be a serious blow to Iran and to Hezbollah.”

Barak also discussed the topic of Iran’s nuclear program, and said that the international pressure on Tehran must be increased. He expressed doubt as to the seriousness of the Iranian regime with regards to real negotiations over its nuclear program, and clarified that as far as Israel is concerned, all options are still on the table.

Barak’s comments come after Iran announced last week that it intends to use advanced and fast centrifuges in order to accelerate the processes at the Natanz nuclear facility. Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu also discussed the Iranian nuclear issue at the start of a gathering of the Israeli government, and said that “the first and most important mission is to stop Iran’s nuclear arming. This is a mission that is becoming more complicated, as Iran is acquiring centrifuges that shorten the enrichment process. We must not accept this process.”
