An El Al pilot forgot to close a side window on an aircraft, causing the cancellation of a flight this past week. The El Al flight, from Tel Aviv to Berlin, was aborted seconds before takeoff when a whistling wind entered the passenger cabin. The flight crew decided to make a sudden braking prior to the plane’s reaching a speed that would force the plane to takeoff.
Due to the emergency braking, several tires lost air and needed to be replaced, causing a three-and-a-half hour delay. An investigation revealed that the pilot forgot to properly close a side window near his seat. An aviation expert told Haaretz that it is preferable to abort a takeoff and not take a chance of closing an open window midflight.
