Former Shas Chairman Eli Yishai held a press conference in Yerushalayim in which he announced the establishment of a new party to run in upcoming elections for the 20th Knesset.
“The people want to finally break the barriers between religious and secular, between Ashkenazim and Sephardim, to bring the tribes of Israel together. The people are with [my new party] because the people want social justice and concern for the poor, the lower class, the periphery and development towns,” Yishai said during a press conference in Jerusalem.

“I have no doubt I am creating a new party with clean hands, honesty, and trust,” added Yishai.

On Sunday, Shas announced a plan to form a council of women to be headed by the daughter of Rav Ovadia Yosef, in response to demands that Charedi women be allowed to run for Knesset.

  1. Yishai has my full support as a person, but I don’t see any gain for the chareidi parties in this whole situation. When Ehud Barak announced his refusal to partner with Shas after it received 17 mandates if Deri stayed on as chairman Rav Ovadiah ztzl decided that the good of the chareidi Tzibbur took precedence over the individual, and Deri stepped down
