Eli Yishai Visits Gedolim as Election Day Draws Near

Yesterday, Shas Chairman Eli Yishai made a number of visits to gedolei Eretz Yisroel in advance of Tuesday’s Knesset elections. As we reported (here), Yishai visited Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv last week and the Belzer Rebbe earlier this week. Yesterday, he first visited Harav Chaim Kanievsky at his home. The visit lasted about 20 minutes and Yishai discussed various goings-on in Shas and the state of the party in the last period.

Yishai then traveled to Netanya where he met with the Sanz-Klausenberger Rebbe, with whom he discussed the state of the Olam Hayeshivos in Eretz Yisroel and the effort to procure as much government funding for mosdos haTorah as possible. The Rebbe was pleased to learn of the efforts of Shas ministers in this regard. The Rebbe also inquired about the welfare of Harav Ovadiah Yosef, head of Shas’ Moetzes Chachmei Hatorah, and expressed his interest in going to visit Rav Yosef.

Yishai concluded his day with a visit to Marav Harav Aharon Leib Shteinman, with whom he discussed a number of issues, including the state of the Olam Hayeshivos, which is facing unprecedented financial struggles.
