Yesterday, I received a call from a volunteer at the Park Slope Armory that they are expecting to give shelter for 500 Seniors who are being evacuated from low lying areas that have lost electricity. The only thing they have to feed them is government issued “food-ration” packs, that contains a chemical activated heating system with an inner pack of a few ounces high sodium food that needs to be squeezed out onto a plate. He asked if Masbia could help with fresh low sodium food. And we did.
Masbia and 50 volunteers cooked and delivered fresh lunch (200) and dinner (400). Tuesday at midnight seniors were still arriving to the emergency center. The only decent food they had available to give them was some left over Masbia vegetable soup.
TODAY (Wednesday) is another day, and Masbia as a grass-roots soup kitchen barely makes ends meet on a given day. We would like to get some food over there again today but I need your help to pay for the supply. For only $6 we can serve a senior a hot nutritious meal.
