A New York City icon is celebrating a major milestone this weekend. The Empire State Building turns 80 years old today.
The building took just one year and 45 days to build, and opened on May 1, 1931.
The city declared it a landmark in 1981.
It is the tallest building in the city, standing exactly 1,454 feet to the top of its antenna.
The building is being lit in white this weekend to mark its 80th anniversary.
