European Jewish leaders are bothered that a EU leaders’ summit in Austria has been set to begin the day after Yom Kippur with some preliminary events taking place on the holy day.

Many Jewish leaders regard the move as indicative of lack of attention to Jewish concerns and some view it as intentional slight.

Péter Niedermuller, a Jewish EU Parliamentarian from Hungary, linked the scheduling to rising rhetoric about the Christian nature of Europe.
