Ex-ICC Prosecutor Warns Palestinians on Anti-Israel War Crimes Effort

international-criminal-courtFormer chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno-Ocampo said Wednesday in Yerushalayim that Palestinians should proceed with caution as they consider pursuing war crimes against Israel at the ICC.

He said the Palestinians are indeed eligible to join the court. But he said if they accepted its jurisdiction, Gaza’s Islamic Hamas rulers also could be investigated for rocket fire and suicide bombings against Israeli civilians. Read more.

  1. Strange statement. Israel never ratified the Rome Statute, which created the ICC. Therefore, like all treaty-based international law, Israel is not under ICC jurisdiction. So what difference does it make whether Palestinians pursue Israelis at the ICC? Also, as Moreno-Campo himseld said, the ICC does not handcuff anyone; it needs the help of member countries.Does he really think that the Palestinians will handcuff Hamas members and send them to the ICC? Foolish. He should keep himself busy with what the ICC has done for the 12 years of its existence: focus almost exclusively on Africa and ignore the rest of the world.
