mark-zuckerbergFacebook and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg are being sued for more than $1 billion over a controversial page on the social networking site that called for violence against Jews.

The suit was filed by American attorney and activist Larry Klayman in the D.C. Superior Court on Thursday. He’s also the founder of the conservative public interest group Judicial Watch.

In the lawsuit, which was obtained by blog TechCrunch, Klayman describes himself as “an American citizen of Jewish origin” who is “active in all matters concerning the security of Israel and its people.”

He alleges that Facebook did not take down a page that called for a “Third Palestinian Intifada” soon enough and willfully kept it up in order to “further their revues and the net worth of the company.”

The page accrued more than 300,000 “likes” for its proposed May 15 uprising.

The page was removed by the company on March 29, several days after a number of people complained including Israeli Public Diplomacy minister Yuli Edelstein and the Anti-Defamation League.

A Facebook spokesman told AFP that the claims were “without merit.”

“We will fight it vigorously,” the spokesman said.

Facebook said the page was initially kept up because it “began as a call for peaceful protest,” but then became more violent.

“While Facebook has accomplished a lot of good, it can, as in this instance, be used for nefarious and evil purposes,” Klayman said in statement on his website.

“Defendants Zuckerberg’s and Facebook’s callous and greedy actions in not taking down the page, but willfully allowing it to stay up for many days, has caused huge damage, for which they must be held accountable, so as to prevent this from ever happening again. They must be not only enjoined but also hit in their purse, which is where they understand matters best.”

  1. it’s within the private realm, so let’s see what happens next, there was a similar story with hallauhoax, im glad were fighting back, and facebook were sitting on there tuhis.

  2. You’d be wise to stay off Facebook and Youtube.
G-d watches over Israel, not the U.S. or its judiciary.
    Shomer Yisroel shmor she’eris Yisroel.

  3. As a conservative-libertarian American and a observant (a.k.a. Orthodox) Jew, I’m not sure I agree with this lawsuit.
From the legal standpoint, there were no damages as of yet, and hopefully there should be none come May 15th. Even if, G-d forbid, the Muslims do respond to the page, you cannot hold a person responsible for the actions of other human beings to such a great extent.
However, even if it were Facebook’s responsibility for the most part, such a lawsuit would give Jews more negative publicity which would just be detrimental. Liberals and Judeophobes are always looking for ways to denigrate Jews and portray them as money-hungry, and this will do nothing but feed that stereotype. Yes; Blacks, Muslims, and every other “minority” group in the States can get away with it, but Jews cannot and that is a fact. We are not, and cannot be, an aggressive nation. We do not accomplish anything by playing the victim card; we succeed by proving ourselves worthy of the world’s respect.
Anyway, even if we did win, who would keep the money? Klayman and his colleagues will pocket most of it and go retire. The rest will probably go to the ADL, an unnecessary liberal organization which does nothing but repeatedly shoot itself in the foot (such as condemning Glen Beck, Israel’s greatest supporter in the media) and feed the fire of anti-Semitism. We, as Jewish Americans, have absolutely nothing to gain from this; we can only lose.

  4. I have absolutely no legal expertise, however, on the face of it it seems that this lawsuit has not chance if the point is to go after damages since there have been none. That is not to say that Facebook should not be sued if there are other grounds for it. And, while theyré at it, they should include ALL the Facebook pages that incite violence against Jews and/or the State of Israel, not just the Third Intifada page.
