Family members and a girlfriend say Alexander Bonds refused to take his medication for paranoid schizophrenia and walked the streets in distress in the hours before police say he killed a NYPD officer early Wednesday. An aunt, Nancy Kearse, told The New York Times the Bronx man had only been home for a week after he was hospitalized for a mental breakdown in which he had threatened to kill people.

According to the New York Post, an unnamed friend told law-enforcement investigators that Bonds was “unhinged” in the hours before the shooting, and she called 911 three times Tuesday night for help, but “every time he saw a cop car go down the block he would go and hide.” Bonds was shot dead by police a block away from the NYPD vehicle where he allegedly killed Officer Miosotis Familia. Read more at the NEW YORK TIMES.

  1. The overwhelmingly majority of people diagnosed with schizophrenia are not violent. Statistics show that they are much more likely to be the victims of violence.
If this man killed, then he chose to kill. No (pseudo)diagnosis caused or excuses it.
Nonetheless, be aware that many modern-day “medications” such as anti-depressants have a “black-box” warning that they can cause people to have homicidal and/or suicidal thoughts.
As you can imagine, the pharma companies were not too happy at being obligated to write in those warnings, but the number of cases of people doing bad things forced the government to act.
So if you want to blame, blame the drugs, not non-compliance in taking them. And if a person comes off them cold-turkey, that can be very dangerous – it has to be done slowly, very slowly.
Yes – even those “nice, calming” sedatives many nice Jews take. Even those can wreak total havoc on you.
There are no easy ways out of the trials of life!
