FBI Paid $1 Million for San Bernardino Hack

The FBI reportedly paid more than $1 million for the hacking tool they used to open San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook’s phone.

The agency’s director James Comey said “it was worth it,” despite there being no clear pieces of relevant information obtained from the hack.

The FBI and Apple were in a long battle over access to the suspect’s phone and the Justice Department initially sought a court order to compel the company to open the phone before the FBI was able to access its information. Read more at The Wall Street Journal.
