keyboard-internet-computerIn an op-ed today, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced he is proposing to regulate the Internet as a public utility. Wheeler wants to use Title II of the Communications Act to make it illegal for the speeding up or slowing down of Web traffic, as well as the blocking of traffic.

“My proposal assures the rights of Internet users to go where they want, when they want,” Wheeler wrote, “and the rights of innovators to introduce new products without asking anyone’s permission.”

The new rules will be brought up for a vote on February 26. Read more at Wired.

  1. 1) If the lawmakers get their paws on the internet, that will be the first step towards hijacking our privacy, taxing internet purchases, and censoring the web.
    2) Internet users already have the right to go where they want and when they want. Innovators already have the right to introduce new products. What is he hacking a tchainik?
    3) FCC Chairman Wheeler does not know the usage of the words “assure” and “ensure”.
