felderBrooklyn, NY – On Monday afternoon, State Senate candidate Simcha Felder’s campaign filed nearly 13,000 petition signatures with the New York City Board of Elections.

“I am honored that so many people expressed such confidence in me,” Felder, who is running in the newly formed 17th Senate District, which encompasses Boro Park and Flatbush, told Matzav.com. “I want to thank everyone who took the time to sign my petition and to all the volunteers who worked so hard collecting them.”

Candidates running in the 17th Senate District are required to file at least 1,000 valid petition signatures from residents of the district in order to appear on the ballot. The 13,000 signatures filed by Felder are not only far more than required by the Board of Elections, but also the largest number filed by any of the candidates for this office.

“I am proud to be running one of the largest, community-based grassroots campaigns this part of Brooklyn has ever seen,” said Felder. “People believe in my commitment, my experience and my record of delivering for this community.”

Felder is currently New York City’s Deputy Comptroller for Budget and Accounting. He served the neighborhoods of Boro Park, Kensington and Flatbush in the City Council from 2002 through 2010.

At the same time, the Democrat campaign of Abraham Tischler for New York’s 17th State Senate District submitted 3,100 petitions to the Board of Elections Tuesday afternoon.

“Our ability to deliver three times more petitions than required – without the power of party bosses, without an established political machine, and without the help from special interest groups – was made possible because our message of changing the old system resonates with voters,” Tischler told Matzav.com today.

“Our effort is a bottom-up operation driven by volunteers and average people who look passed career politicians that don’t have the conviction to state clearly on which side they stand, let alone the conviction to stand-up for the needs of hard-working families,” added Tischler.
