FIFA Exec: Qatar Cup Will Be Canceled

soccerA FIFA executive board member said he doesn’t think the 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar after all. “Personally, I believe that the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar in the end,” Theo Zwanziger told German publication Sports Bild. “The doctors say-and I have demanded to have this registered in the records-that they can’t be held responsible for a summer World Cup held in those conditions.”

The decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar has come under criticism, not only for the extreme heat but the treatment of the laborers used to build the stadiums.

However, FIFA does not appear to be changing its mind on the World Cup locale any time soon. “As highlighted by Mr. Zwanziger, this is his personal opinion,” said the organization’s spokesman. Read more at ABC News.
