loretta-lynch1After the third-longest confirmation battle in history for an attorney general, the Senate confirmed Loretta Lynch to be the nation’s new top attorney.

She is the first African-American woman to hold the job after spending years as a U.S. attorney in New York.

Republicans mostly objected to Lynch because she says she supports President Obama’s executive action to defer deportation for many undocumented immigrants.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had held up a vote on Lynch’s nomination in lieu of a vote on a human-trafficking bill. Read more at the New York Times.
