The first Holocaust Museum in Slovakia’s history was opened this week in a ceremony attended by senior officials from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Israel.

The new museum was built directly on the grounds of the former concentration camp in Sereď, where approximately 16,000 Jews were imprisoned during the Holocaust.

The former camp has opened its grounds to the public for the first time in over 70 years, and has turned into the permanent exhibition of the Holocaust Museum.
