First Great-Great-Great-Grandchild Born to Rav Elyashiv

rav-elyashivThe Israeli chareidi media all are headlining the news of the birth of a great-great-great-grandchild to Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv. The baby, who was born to Rabbi and Mrs. Yonason Hoenigsberg at Mayanei Hayeshua Hospital on Shabbos morning, is a grandchild of both Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman and Rav Chaim Kanievsky, who are mechutanim. Rav Chaim, as is well known, is Rav Elyashiv’s son-in-law.

The news outlets state that this is the first great-great-great-grandchild born to the posek hador.

Bechadrei Chareidim reports that Rabbi Yonason Honigsberg, the avi hatinok, is a son of Rav Gedaliah Hoenigsberg, who in turn is a son-in-law of Rav Shraga Shteinman, who is a son of Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman and a son-in-law of Rav Chaim Kanievsky.

  1. Obviously, the baby is not a grandchild to Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman and Rav Chaim Kanievsky as is written above but rather their great-great grandchild, one generation down from (and one great- less than)Rav Elyashiv.

  2. Rav Honigsberg, the Zaida, is a rosh mesivta in the slabodka Yeshiva.
Rav Shraga Shteinman, Rav Chaim;s aidem, is rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Kehillas Yakov (named after the Steipler.)
