candle-small5A 13-year-old girl, Sarah Erdan a”h, was killed on Sunday when the car she was traveling in struck a tree and a one-family home in Flatbush, Brooklyn. She was taken to Kings County Hospital, but succumbed to severe head injuries.

The 16-year-old driver is under arrest, charged in the crash. Police say the driver was speeding when he lost control of the car. It then jumped the curb and hit the house.

The accident happened in front of the Ostrovitsky home at 1620 East 23rd Street, between Quentin Road and Avenue P, near Kings Highway.

Sarah was riding in the back seat, police said.

The driver and his friend, Joseph Erdan, also 16, weren’t seriously hurt in the 2:30 p.m. accident.

The Honda Odyssey minivan hit speeds up to 63 mph in a 30 mph zone, when it lost control and crashed.

The driver was charged with reckless endangerment, speeding, operating a vehicle out of class, and criminally negligent homicide.

The driver had a valid junior license, which allows him to drive only under strict circumstances, including having a licensed driver sitting next to him and no more than one underage passenger.

It wasn’t known if any of the teens were wearing seat belts.

  1. Maybe someone can explain what a 13 year old is doing driving in a van with a 16 year old going 63 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone??

  2. Stop it #5!

She and her brother got a quick ride home from his friend who was the same age.

A wise person knows when to comment.

  3. #6, the friend who was the same age, 16, was not supposed to be driving at all, according to the law. Look up the law on the NYS DMV, for 16-year-olds, with Junior Permit, Limited Junior License, and Junior License.

  4. #7, you are correct. My point in 6 was, lets not take another family’s tragedy and exaggerate side stuff in order to feel good. Its very low.

[Can someone please explain to me what people are doing stooping so low as to utilize such great tragedies- filled with pain, anguish and guilt no doubt- to make themselves feel good in editorializing and lecturing?

    I’m sorry for attacking]
