For the first time, Torah Connections in conjunction with Congregation Tomchei Torah, located at 1966 Ocean Avenue, between Avenues N and O, in Flatbush, will hold a series of evening shiurim, every Monday and Wednesday night during Elul, to help men and women get ready for the Yomim Noraim with a sharper understanding of the traditional Selichos that we recite in advance of the Yom Hadin.
Each session, which is free of charge, will be held from 8:45 p.m. to 10 p.m., followed by Maariv. Discussions and explanations of the Selichos will allow attendees to gain a better understanding of how one can utilize the power of these tefillos that ask Hashem to forgive our aveiros and shortcomings of the past year.
On Wednesday, Rosh Chodesh Elul/August 11, Rabbi Avi Gold will deliver a lecture titled “Introduction: The Purpose and Structure of Selichos.”
Rabbi Dovid Gibber will address “Shalosh Esrei Middos: The Thirteen Qualities of Mercy” on Monday and Wednesday, 6 and 8 Elul/August 16 and 18.
Rabbi Shmuel Boylan will discuss an “In-Depth Study of Selected Selichos” on Monday and Thursday, 13 and 16 Elul/August 23 and 26.
Rabbi Menachem Davis will present an “In-Depth Study of Selected Selichos” on Monday and Thursday, 20 and 23 Elul/August 30 and September 2.
Concluding this series will be Rabbi Kalman Redisch’s talk on “Preparing for the Yom Hadin Through Selichos of Erev Rosh Hashanah” on Monday, 27 Elul/September 6.
The Chodesh Elul program, “Studies in Selichos,” is being offered as a zechus for the refuah sheleimah of Raphael Binyamin Yehuda ben Rivka Yehudis.
