Food Stamps Put on a Diet

foodstampedThe House and Senate Agriculture committees reached a compromise Monday to cut $800 million from food stamps in the farm bill. The cut represents 1 percent of the program’s annual cost, which is less than the 5 percent cut House Republicans passed last year but more than the 0.5 percent cut the Democratic Senate passed last year.

  1. FACT: There are more people in the United States on food stamps right now than at any time in the history of this welfare program.

Obama is turning the United States into The Welfare State. Socialism reigns supreme!

  2. #1 redstate:

More people are on SNAP than ever because of the economic catastrophe of 2008 — and frum Jews were affected as badly as anyone else. Obama had nothing to do with that; Bush was still in power. This attitude that people should be left to go hungry is sadly typical of Republican right wingers.

  3. Before you rejoice, think of the many poor families on food stamps, the frum elderly and unemployed – people who will suffer because of this “conservative victory.” The percentage of Americans on food stamps is at a historical high because our economy is at the worst it’s been since the Great Depression in the 1930’s. Being happy that children will be going hungry is not the sort of thing one would expect from one of Avraham Avinu’s children. Therefore I am assuming that Redstate is not a Yid. Yidden are rachamim bnei rachamim.

  4. i am currently on snap benefits and for all those out there that think a cut is a great idea, think again. i have five children and my allotment is 500 and change monthly. if u think that anywhere near covers my food, u are so wrong. trust me if i could get a better paying job and go off of snap, i would. but that is impossible where i live! so think about others who aren’t making it before you rejoice about this cut!
