Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay angered the religious world by tweeting about a Shabbos trip he took courtesy of the private “Yambus” service.
“I’m now joining the families and young people waiting for the ‘Yambus’ in Be’er Sheva, a great organization for public transport on Shabbat, as it should be! Destination: Ashkelon beach,” he reported, saying later, “[I’ve reached] Ashkelon beach, with public transportation, on Shabbat, as it should be anywhere in Israel, but under the auspices of the State and not through private organizations of citizens.”
“Every child who wants to travel with friends to the beach, anyone who can’t afford a private car, deserves quality public transport on Shabbat as well,” he concluded. “It’s one of the central issues we’ll advance.”
On motzoei Shabbos, Gabbay visited Ponevezh rosh yeshiva Rav Gershon Edelstein who was sitting shivah for a son. Apprised of Gabbay’s chillul Shabbos, Rav Gershon said the shivah was not time to mention the issue but he didn’t refrain from remarking to the politician, “You need to be mekadesh Shem Shomayim and not chas veshalom make a chillul Shem Shomayim.”

It would certainly be ironic if he were to be run over by one of these buses…….on Shabbos Koidesh!
It would also be ironic if the Bais Medrash of a Yeshiva whose bochurim protest against the IDF is invaded by terrorists, and the Yeshiva’s Hanhala has to call in the Police and the IDF to rescue them.
