Former Attorney General Eric Holder said NSA leaker Edward Snowden “performed a public service” by setting off an international debate over governments’ surveillance capabilities.

“We can certainly argue about the way in which Snowden did what he did, but I think that he actually performed a public service by raising the debate that we engaged in and by the changes that we made,” Holder said on David Axelrod’s podcast, The Axe Files.

But while he praised the former NSA contractor, Holder clarified that he still believes Snowden acted inappropriately and illegally, and “harmed American interests.” Therefore, Holder added, Snowden should return to the U.S. and face a trial. “I think there has to be a consequence for what he has done,” he said. Read more at CNN.

  1. Who cares what this unelected impeached criminal has to say?! This race baiter set this Nation back, 100 years! His provocative words caused the riots in Ferguson.

  2. Let’s summarize. By demanding that Snowden face justice and consequences, while conveniently omitting such request for those that sanction and operate the big brother violation of constitutional rights, Holder reveals himself to be a proponent of the big brother, therefore doesn’t really consider Snowdwen to have performed a public service. By complimenting Snowden, Holder is trying to give an impression of being an innocent bystander, not the one who sanctioned this big brother wholesale violation of our constitutional rights in the first place.

  3. When will this racist, Eric Witholder, apologize to the Terry family for the murder of their son Brian, because of his gun running scam, Fast & Furious? It’s too bad the little weakling Republicans didn’t have this criminal thrown in prison when they had their chance.
