fox-newsFox News’ twitter feed was reportedly hacked Monday morning July 4th following a series of tweets announcing that President Obama had been assassinated.

One tweet from the @foxnewspolitics feed stated: “BREAKING NEWS: @BarackObama assassinated, 2 gunshot wounds have proved too much.”

Another tweet congratulated Vice President Joe Biden on assuming the presidency: “We wish @joebiden the best of luck as our new President of the United States. In such a time of madness, there’s light at the end of tunnel”.

This morning, Fox News released a statement on their website: “FoxNews.com’s Twitter feed for political news, FoxNewspolitics, was hacked early Monday morning. Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family. The hacking is being investigated, and FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.”

Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital, said that Fox News would work with Twitter to investigate the matter.

“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” Misenti said.
