France Blasts NSA Spying on Leaders

french-president-francois-hollandeWikiLeaks claims documents prove that the NSA has spied on the last three French presidents, François Hollande, Jacques Chirac, and Nicolas Sarkozy. A spokesman for the organization says he is confident the documents are authentic, though they have yet to be independently confirmed.

National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that the U.S. is “not targeting and will not target the communications of President Hollande.”

Nonetheless, Hollande issued a stern statement through his office, saying, “France will not tolerate any actions that threaten its security and the protection of its interests.”

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, meanwhile, called on the U.S. to “repair the damage” done to U.S.-France relations and called the documents “a very serious violation of the spirit of trust” between the countries. Read more at BBC News.
