Freddie Gray Driver Charged With Murder

In a press conference Friday morning, Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced that she found probable cause to charge six police officers involved in the arrest of Freddie Gray.

Officer Caesar Goodson, who drove the van in which Gray was catastrophically injured, has been charged with second-degree murder, Mosby said. The other officers face charges that include manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office, and false imprisonment.

“I assured [Gray’s] family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf,” Mosby said, before saying that police did not establish probable cause for 25-year-old’s arrest. Though police found a knife on Gray after searching him, “the knife was not a switchblade, and is lawful under Maryland law.”
Mosby said Gray indicated “at least twice” that he needed a medic-a request the officers did not respect. Instead, they responded to a second arrest stop in a “grossly negligent manner” while Gray was in need of medical help.

The crowd broke out in cheers as Mosby announced the charges.

“To the people of Baltimore and the demonstrators across America, I heard your call for ‘no justice, no peace,'” Mosby said, calling on protesters to maintain peace while she pursues justice through the courts. “To the youth of this city: I will seek justice on your behalf,” Mosby promised, calling for “structural and systemic changes.”

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the officers. Read more at The Baltimore Sun.

  1. a summary of this whole situation: a thug ran from police. they chased him, and when they caught him, he fought. he was carrying an illegal switchblade, and was a known and convicted drug dealer with a huge arrest record. he was high when he was arrested. he made so many problems while being taken into custody, his legs needed to be shackled. he faked pain while being taken to jail, like all criminals. in the van he tried to kill himself. he eventually succeeded. some trouble makers made up 19 different stories about how the police killed him, because they are racist, like everyone who doesnt view african americans as superior.they then rioted for a week. now the officers who supposedly killed him are being charged, either due to outside pressure, or due to fear of these animals destroying more.

  2. It is so obvious that the only reason the officers are being charged is because everyone is afraid that if they’re not, not only will riots start up again in Baltimore but all over the U.S. They know the situation will get out of hand and that these “people” will act like savage animals and so its easier to make these poor officers the scapegoats than deal with the ramifications of what will occur if they are not charged.

  3. Freddie Gray had a huge rap sheet, but the police were very brutal breaking his back etc. I can’t say the police were justified, but, Gray was a thug and didn’t belong out on the streets

  4. To no. 1. You seem incapabe of reading. There was no switchblade. The police had no reason arresting him, and they obviously dealt with him in a way that risked his life, and continued to ignore him afterward. I am glad that they will be facing justice. Of course they will recieve the due process they deserve, but in this case i predict a guilty verdict. This guy was not Michael Brown.
To #2. The “poor police officers” that denied him emrgency care? It’s the police that are thugs.

  5. This is uprecidented to hand out indictments this fast. If the 5 of the 6 officers are found innocent, the riots by the ingratefuls will start up all over again with much more force.
