rafael-ramos-left-and-wenjian-liuNumerous community volunteer organizations have responded to a call to demonstrate support for the NYPD and will be attending the funeral of NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu this Sunday. Among these organizations are Chaverim, Chesed, Chesed Shel Emes, Mekimi, Misaskim, the Shomrim and Yad Efraim.
Owen J. Monaghan, NYPD Chief of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, has given the community the designated area of 65th Street and 14th Avenue per Assemblyman Hikind’s request; the funeral procession will pass by this area as it proceeds down 65th Street at 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 3. People are advised to arrive early.
“The brave men and women of the NYPD risk their lives every day protect us,” said Hikind. “Imagine what it would be like without the police? We are more than appreciative for what New York’s Finest do and we should convey that their loss is indeed our loss. I hope to see many members of our community showing support this Sunday and invite you to stand with me as we honor the memory of Officer Liu.”
Officer Liu and his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos, were shot to death inside their patrol car on Dec. 20 by a gunman who had posted online about plans to attack police. Liu, 32, was a seven-year police veteran and served in the police auxiliary.
