yoel-weisshausA New Jersey man has filed a federal lawsuit in New York over the Port Authority’s toll increase. Yoel Weisshaus of New Milford claims the increase is an abuse of power and discriminates against him because he is poor.

Cash tolls on the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing went up from $8 to $12 on Sunday.

Weisshaus claims the tolls are targeted to restrict minimum-wage earners and will be used to complete the World Trade Center project instead of improving bridges and tunnels.

The Record newspaper reports the unemployed Bergen Community College student, who frequently visits his grandparents in Brooklyn, has asked the court to waive filing fees because he can’t afford them. He is representing himself.

  1. he actualy thing he is going to win repersenting himself? Nice try your going against a brick wall were a state wont give a dollar
GET A LAWYER AND HE WIL TAKE A CUT WHEN U RECEIVE MONEY LIKE ALL LAWYERS DO
    GOOD LUCK

  2. please this will be a big zechus for all those who travel from Lakewood to Brooklyn to work. if you need support ask for it you will get it

  3. Why woudnt they post the picture?? Plus if u are on this site u belive wat they are writing and showing if not don’t go on this site and than doubt it!

  4. does anyone realize that between tolls and gas it cost about $40 to drive round trip from brooklyn to lakewood. It is ridiculous that a drive that is little more than an hour (no traffic) should cost so much!!

  5. 8 DOLLARS TO 12 DOLLARS MISMANAGEMENT OF TOO MUCH CONSTRUCTION FROM THE PORT AUTHORITY AND COPS WHO DIRECT TRAFFIC IS WORSE THE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ITSELF. 4 DOLLAR HIKE IS A HIGHWAY ROBBERY.

  6. While being poor is not necessarily a protected class in terms of discrimination. However raising tolls between states to a level that poor people cannot afford to pay my chill the right to travel between the states

  7. The point is not to discriminate against the poor. And raising money for the city is only a secondary reason for the hikes – they did it to discourage cash-payers and encourage the use of EZpass, to help traffic. Poor or not, he can just solve his problem by getting an EZpass.
And #11 – the reason not to is because the less Jews in the papers, the better for klal yisroel-especially with frivolous lawsuits like this one

  8. Let me get this straight.
A guy owns a car, pays insurance, gasoline, maintenance, and when it comes to paying tolls, he can claim poverty?? In Europe poor people use public transportation!

  9. The lawsuit isn’t frivolous, it just has no chance of winning. I would guess that the reason he has no lawyer is that no one would take the case.
