The Israeli Democratic Institute recently granted Moshe Gafni of UTJ its annual Distinguished Parliamentarian award.

“We are honored to present MK Moshe Gafni the parliamentary award for his work as an MK during the first year of the 20th Knesset,” the institute announced. “The award is awarded to MKs whose work was especially prominent during the previous session and fulfilled their duty as public representatives, contributing to the advancement of the Knesset’s standing and the strengthening of democracy in Israel. They are thus worthy to serve as an example to all their colleagues.

“MK Moshe Gafni is a veteran MK who serves as MK for United Torah Judaism and for [its subsidiary] Degel Hatorah since the twelfth Knesset,” the announcement said. “His exemplary parliamentary activities have been noticeable for years and he was nominated for the award in 2011 and 2012. Gafni is particularly prominent in his activities as chairman of the Finance Committee and as an energetic legislator.

“During the first year of the 20th Knesset he worked tirelessly to promote legislation related to the Finance Committee he chairs, in particular on behalf of vulnerable populations such as people with disabilities and parents of children with serious illnesses. For this activity and for his activity as an MK in general, the 2016 Parliamentary Award is granted to MK Moshe Gafni.”

At the same time, the Main Game- Ranking TV program that ranks ministers and MKs according to their ranking in surveys, their degree of media mention and the opinions of political commentators, ranked Health Minister Yaakov Litzman as top minister for May with 5.9 out of 10 points, followed by former Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon (5.5) and new Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman (5.5).
