German Court: Burning Down Shul Was ‘Legitimate Act of Protest’ Against Israel

On Friday, a German regional court affirmed a lower court’s decision that firebombing a shul was not anti-Semitism, but a valid form of anti-Israel political expression, BIN reports.

Three German Palestinians threw firebombs at the Wuppertal synagogue in July, 2014, after consuming alcohol. No one was injured in the attack but the fire caused approximately $800 in damage. The local court said in a 2015 decision that the attack was not anti-Semitism. The court recorded that the three men wanted to draw “attention to the Gaza conflict” with Israel. The court gave the three suspended sentences.

Several days before the fire, a person spray-painted “Free Palestine” on a wall of the shul. The original shul. in Wuppertal was burned by Nazi Germans during the Kristallnacht pogroms in 1938.

At the time of the arson attack, Israel was involved in an incursion into Gaza in response to hundreds of rocket and mortar attacks targeting urban centers.

After the local Wuppertal court decision in 2015, Volker Beck, a leading Green Party MP, said the “attack on the synagogue was motivated by antisemitism” and publicly criticized the court for its decision that the goal of the attack was due to the war in Gaza.

“This is a mistaken decision as far as the motives of the perpetrators are concerned,” he said, adding that the burning of a synagogue in Germany is clearly motivated by antisemitism.

“What do Jews in Germany have to do with the Middle East conflict? Every bit as much as Christians, non-religious people or Muslims in Germany, namely, absolutely nothing. The ignorance of the judiciary toward anti-Semitism is for many Jews in Germany especially alarming, ” said Beck.

  1. Why is there shul in Germany?? Haven’t they shown us who they really are? Are we looking for more kristalnachts?

Of course thesti shul burning is anti semitism!
Burning the shul in protest to Israel is pure anti semitism!

It’s time for every Jew to leave Germany and it’s ilk.

  2. So if the Russians and the Poles drink a bit and remember the German invasion, with all its horrors and loss of life, they would be justified in burning down a German embassy or two, or, perhaps, in shooting few German tourists?

  3. Reminds me of an interview in German radio in the streets of Vienna right after Kristallnacht, when an SA thug said that ‘the Jews have only themselves to blame for the conflagration!”… (taken from a PBS Special broadcast in November 1988 on the 50th anniversary). They haven’t changed a bit

  4. Maybe its time for some Yeshiva bochrim to get drunk and wonder toward the local mosque! It couldnt be a hate crime! it would be motivated by the rockets from gaza!

  5. So if I would like to protest ISIS I can firebomb a mosque. It’s a”legitimate act of protest” against ISIS! On the same note if I would like to protest this ruling I can shoot this judge!
The germans haven’t changed a bit since WW2. They are stupid enough to have open borders. Let them suffer from unrestricted terror! They will get a close up view of their country falling apart along with the rest of europe as ISIS destroys these stupid liberals. Keep being naive germany!
