gilad-shalitThe German mediator negotiating for the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has concluded a two-day visit to the Gaza Strip where he held talks with senior Hamas leaders, the Al-Hayat daily reported today.

Gerhard Conrad presented a series of new ideas to Hamas in a renewed effort to reach a deal with Israel over a prisoner swap that would see Shalit freed after more than four years in Palestinian captivity, a top Hamas official told the daily.

The official did not elaborate on what those ideas entailed, but said that Hamas would remain firm in its insistence that Israel free every prisoner that it demanded on a list it presented earlier in the negotiations.

Hamas wants some 1,400 prisoners released from Israeli jails in return for handing over the soldier, who was captured in a cross-border raid in June 2006.

Israel has balked at a number of the names on Hamas’ list – which includes some responsible for deadly terror attacks in Israel – agreeing to free around 980 prisoners.

Negotiations have stalled numerous times. Hamas last year accused Israel of changing its stance over points to which it had already agreed. Hamas sources have said that Israel is delaying the completion of the Shalit deal by refusing to release 50 Hamas officials it holds in its jails.

  1. GET READY for more Terrorism as 1400 muslim prisoners get released in exchange for 1 yid. be prepared for more bombs from them and rockets from gaza as they capture more soldiers to release more muslim prisoners.
ISRAEL IS NOW PROVING THAT TERRORISM PAYS
too bad this is the way israel works & trades, sorry.

NOTE: this is what Klal Yisroel gets when all these Tzaros Happen & we don’t wake up to do Teshuva

  2. When a frum news site prints anything about Gilad, even if taken from elsewhere, it should be a given that “Gilad ben Aviva” appear in the body of the article.

  3. Hamas knows that Israel is not going to let out 1400 priosners (that is asking for the destruction of the whole country). Basically, Hamas is saying they have no plans to free Gilad. They are giving an ultimatum taht is impossible its sad that the rest of teh world doesn’t care. Obama has not put any pressure on the Palestinians to release Gilad. In fact, I never heARD Obama even mention Gilad. All these politians should think about what it would be like if one of their children were kidnapped and teh whoel world had no interest in getting involved.

  4. Prayers for Gilad Shalit. He has been held for 1664 days now. If the right moves are made on the political chessboard his safe release will be assured. His fate is a microcosm of the region. As I stated more than four years ago, if the State of Israel does not care about Gilad Shalit G-d will not care about the State of Israel. Blessings to Bibi’s “Shalit Team” and the German negotiator.
