Edward Snowden may be able to count Al Gore as a friend. The former vice president was asked how he felt about the National Security Agency whistleblower at tech conference Southland today.
While Gore prefaced his response by noting that Snowden did break the law, the ex-veep said “what he revealed in the course of violating important laws included violations of the Constitution that were way more serious than the crimes he committed.”
Gore added that Snowden provided an “important service because we did need to know how far this has gone.” In fact, Gore’s initial reaction was “dismay that [NSA surveillance] had gone as far as it has.” Read more at Pando.
