coldNY – It appears it’s time to break out the sweaters, jackets and scarves. Fall may officially be one week away but with temperatures dropping nearly 40 degrees since Wednesday it feels like the seasons have already changed.

Thursday night’s breezy, rainy weather ushered in temperatures the Big Apple hasn’t seen in months. Residents woke up Friday to temperatures in the mid 40s.

“I’m freezing right now,” one man in Columbus Circle said.

“I thought I was ready but this is cold, this is really cold,” Elanya McQueen, of Canarsie, told CBS 2′s Kristin Thorne. “I have on a long-sleeved shirt and I’m still cold.”

In Times Square, some people sipped on hot coffee just to keep warm while others tried to convince themselves cold is just a state of mind.

“I’m pacing around trying to keep a mental state that I’m having fun,” Eddie Espinosa said.

Some in Manhattan weren’t complaining about the cooler weather.

“We’re loving it,” Vince Colaluca said. “I was able to throw a coat on, come to Times Square and not worry about getting blistered in the summer heat.”

Friday will be mostly sunny with a high of 66. Temperatures are expected to drop again overnight with a low of 44 in the suburbs and 50 in Midtown Manhattan.

Shabbos will see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 60s.

  1. to secular: global warming has its name because of the over all average earth surface temp rising. One of the consequences of which is erratic and extreme weather. This fits in with global warming aka climate change perfectly.
