morton-friedman-minchaFlying in and out of New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport is about to become more convenient for Jewish travelers with the opening of a nearby service area which will offer minyanim, food and free parking at a nearby Orthodox synagogue.

The Rabbi Morton Friedman Mincha-Maariv Rest Area will be opening on Wednesday, July 16th and will be located at the Rockwood Park Jewish Center, just minutes away from the area’s busiest airport. Named for the Kiryas Joel resident who devoted his life to community service, working hand in hand with law enforcement officials and upstate hospitals as a liaison to the Jewish community, Rabbi Friedman was instrumental in creating free hospital Shabbos rooms and devoted countless hours to maintaining the Sloatsburg Mincha area on the New York State Thruway.

Located just off the Belt Parkway at 156-45 84th Street in Howard Beach, Queens, the new Mincha- Maariv area will offer daily minyanim, access to a Beis Medrash, kosher sandwiches and light refreshments. Free long or short term parking will be available by reservation.

“This is a fitting tribute to our dear father who gave his life for others,” said Rabbi Abe Friedman. “We hope to continue his legacy of helping the community by providing travelers access to a facility offering free food, davening and free parking.”

The Rabbi Morton Friedman Mincha-Maariv/Rest Area will be open daily from 5 PM to midnight. To make a parking reservation or to hear the daily schedule for Shachris, Mincha or Maariv, contact the Rockwood Park Jewish Center at 718-641-5822.
