governors-islandNew York, NY – Several weeks ago, Councilman Greenfield teamed up with Governors Island to find a kosher food vendor. Just a few short weeks later, kosher food has come to Governors Island. The glatt kosher Schnitzi food truck, a favorite across Brooklyn, has joined the Liggett Terrace food court at Governors Island. The Schnitzi truck will be at Governors Island starting at 11 am every Sunday through the end of the season.

Schnitzi, established in 2007, serves schnitzel, a favorite dish at their Borough Park and Midwood locations. Schnitzi also offers many sauces and sides to enjoy with the schnitzel. Any patron who has had their fill of schnitzel can explore the various other menu offerings including chicken, steak, roast beef and even pastrami.

“Governors Island is New York City’s newest public space. It is a truly creative and exciting park for families to explore,” said City Councilman David Greenfield. “I am delighted visitors will now be able to enjoy Kosher food when they visit the park this summer.

It’s not all schnitzel on Governors Island. There is even kosher ice cream. Alchemy Creamery provides unique kosher ice cream options like hazelnut, almond and coconut milk. Their ice creams are dairy-free, gluten-free, and certified kosher and vegan. The Creamery is open every day at Liggett Terrace.

Governors Island is open to the public every day through September 28. Brooklynites can get there by ferry, which runs from Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 on Sundays, July 4th and Labor day. There is a $2 round trip fare for adults and children over the age of 12. On Sundays there is no fare on all 11 am and 11:30 am ferry crossings.
