APTOPIX Mideast Israel PalestiniansEnglish speakers across the globe are getting a real-time glimpse of what it is like to live under the constant threat of terrorist rocket attacks thanks to a hugely popular smartphone app that sends out a “red alert” whenever Israel is targeted.

As Israeli citizens struggle to shelter themselves from a near-constant barrage of rockets fired by the terror group Hamas, those living outside of the Jewish state are experiencing the same sense of panic via the Red Alert: Israel app, which “provides real time alerts every time a terrorist fires rockets, mortars, or missiles into the State of Israel.”

The iPhone app has received nearly 800,000 downloads since recent hostilities broke out and recently got some unlikely media attention when the siren went off as Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer was conducting an interview on CBS News.

  1. Someone near us created a connection to the Hebrew one at website beitarsiren.com – you have to check off “enable notifications” and you get google mail like popups in the bottom right side of your screen no matter what window of your computer you’re on (if you check all it will make a siren noise for Beitar and Beit Shemesh areas, and just a beep and notification popup for anywhere else)

  2. Apple app store is where you can insert “red alert” in search box, and download it onto an iphone or Ipad

  3. @AinOdMilvado: it does not sound the siren for Beit Shemesh – only “Beit Shemesh 191” – which is the region bordering Beitar’s region. Beit Shemesh itself is in “Beit Shemesh 188”.
