So said the former Head of Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Tzachi Hanegbi, at a closed meeting of Likud activists in Yafo. A recording of his speech reached daily newspaper Makon Rishon’s reporter, Ze’ev Kam.

“The prime minister will have to make decisions that will bear a price tag. Allowing Iranian nuclear weapons has a price tag. The practical result will be a nuclear arms race in the entire Middle East,” he explained.

“Today, when we say that we understand the danger of the Iranian threat, and understand that a confrontation bears a price, it is because we want to prevent our sons and grandson from paying unbearable prices,” he said.

  1. The Yom Kippur War happened because the defense and government establishment preferred to believe their own superiority made any military harm to Israel impossible. “Kochi v”otzem yadi.” The current government believes that provoking a war with Iran will not result in serious consequences for the Israeli people.

I was there. I lost friends. I was in the demonstrations – led by a soldier who had almost been killed on the “invincible” Bar Lev line – that brought that government down. If today’s government continues to believe its own speeches, the country might not have enough organization left to have a government to bring down.

We here in the States had better start making plans for helping the Jewish refugees that Mr. Netanyahu is doing his best to create.

  2. To Old Timer:

“We here in the States had better start making plans for helping the Jewish refugees that Mr. Netanyahu is doing his best to create.”

Unfortunatly, if your prez, Hussain, retains power, you won’t be able to do anything to save your Brothers!

  3. You may be old enough to have protested the Yom Kippur War and perhaps even the Vietnam War but you have no right to criticize Netanyahu.

He’s the last person who wants a war with Iran but he’s also been at the forefront of trying to convince the world of the danger that a nuclear Iran poses. They haven’t acted so what else is he supposed to do regarding this imminent, existential threat? Are you losing as much sleep as he is over the danger to 6 million Jews and to the world?

We here in the States would be fortunate to have a political leader who is as devoted and caring as Netanyahu is!
