queensboro-bridgeHappy 100th Birthday to the Queensborough Bridge. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was on hand today to join in the first of a week-long series of events commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the 59h Street Bridge – the longest span across the East River.
The celebration began with a parade of vintage cars starting in Queens and Manhattan meeting in the middle on the South Upper Roadway. Attendies include Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NYC DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, Manhattan and Queens Borough Presidents, and the 95-year-old daughter of the Bridge’s Designer.

The bridge, which resembles a horizontal Eiffel Tower because of the trusses that make up the cantilever, has long been an iconic part of the city’s skyline. The Queensboro Bridge was designated a national monument in 1974.

  1. How about a post about the hundreds of thousands of Jews that gathered for the parade in NYC. You can report about the birthday of a bridge but the largest annual gathering of Jews in America you don’t feel is newsworthy?

  2. it is a shonda that this site did not acknowledge the parade yesterday as it acknowleges this pointless anniversary. tidden of all stripes and all walks of life gathered for the largest display of jewish unity and support for eret yisroel in the entire world, making a huge kiddush hashem right here in new york city and you dont even MENTION it? if that is official matzav plicy, i am officially going to boycott all of your sponsors. what a shonda. what a busha.

no more 5tjt in my house, nosireee.
