Hebrew Academy of Cleveland’s Kollel Expands

cleveland-kollel-smallThis is the second year of a wonderful collaboration between the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland’s kollel and the Academy’s yeshiva high school. Established with the vision of Rav Elya Svei zt”l, the late Philadelphia rosh yeshiva, the kollel was founded last year with much siyata diShmaya with Rav Zev Busel, the rosh kollel, successfully recruiting a high caliber group of dynamic and talented yungeleit to relocate to Cleveland from Eretz Yisroel and Lakewood. It continued this year with the addition of three additional yungeleit: Rabbi and Mrs. Menachem Leibowitz, Rabbi and Mrs. Avrohom Meystel, and Rabbi and Mrs. Meir Margulies.

The kollel has brought the ruach of friendship and the excitement of learning onto the high school campus. The kollel, based in the Academy’s yeshiva high school campus, provides daily on-site role models, mentors and chavrusos. The yungeleit have built warm and caring relationships with the bochurim and have inspired the bochurim to learn with great diligence and enthusiasm. The kollel members open their hearts and their homes to the yeshiva high school bochurim for oneg Shabbos, seudah shlishis and melava malka.

cleveland-kollelThe kollel was inaugurated last year with a community kinnus and reception which was attended by Rav Chaim Stein, Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky and Rav Nochum Zev Dessler. At the time, Rav Kamenetsky expressed his hope that just as the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland is recognized worldwide as an innovative leader in chinuch habonim vehabanos, the new kollel would lead the way with its school-based kollel for other schools to follow and emulate.

“The impact of the kollel in such a short time span has surpassed even our most optimistic expectations. We are looking forward to continued siyata diShmaya to build on these successes in the coming year,” said Rav Busel.
