Hechaver Yisroel Meyer z”l

candle-small6It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Hechaver Yisroel Meyer z”l, Hechaver Yisroel ben Hachaver Shlomo, the patriarch of a family of noted bnei Torah, machzikei Torah and askonim who have greatly impacted and enhanced the frum communities in which they reside. He was 89 years old.

Reb Yisroel was a throwback from the old school, a fartzeitishe Yid whose varemkeit and ehrlichkeit inspired all who met him. His chashivus haTorah and unbending hashkafos can be seen in the illustrious family he merited raising.

He is survived by his sons, R’ Elozor, R’ Yosef, R’ Shlomo, R’ Avrohom and R’ Yanky.

The levaya took place in Boro Park, followed by kevurah in the Vienner chelkah at the bais hachaim in Woodbridge, NJ.

The family will be sitting shivah at 2216 80th Street, between Bay Parkway and 23rd Avenue, in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Used to do business with R’ Yisroel.
For years I said about him that if you put a ruler up to him, you’d see how crooked the ruler was.
They just don’t make them like that anymore.

  2. It is the titled bestowed upon special people accoridng to the Yekeshe Minhag; means more than Rabbi as Rabbi is used today.

  3. #4 you are just right! He was a great tzaddik! I had the merit of working together with him for few years. I will really miss him! ??? ???? ????
