herman-cain1Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Monday that Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) would be an “excellent choice” for Mitt Romney’s vice presidential candidate, joining a chorus of conservative Republicans who have tabbed the Tea Party freshman as a potential addition to the ticket.

“He is well-spoken, he is direct, he is from Florida and folks in Florida love him – with Florida being one of those key states in the Fall. But most importantly, Col. Allen West is a dedicated patriot who has served in the military, and who is willing to serve his country again. I think he would be an excellent choice,” Cain told conservative talk radio host Steve Gill.

Speculation about a spot on the ticket for the congressman grew last week when former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she believed the eventual Republican nominee should make a “rogue” pick in her own mold.

allen-westSouth Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a prominent Romney surrogate who herself has been IDed as a possible addition to the ticket, said Wednesday that West could be a “good” choice, although later seemed to backtrack from those comments.

West himself told CNN Friday he would join the Republican ticket as a VP nominee “if it was the right fit.”

“The focus is, of course, being a good congressional representative,” the freshman member said. “But if someone were to make that call to me, which I really doubt is ever going to happen, you would have to make sure that it is something that God would ordain for you, and you’d have to talk to your wife, my wife and my two daughters about. But we have always stepped up to the plate to serve our country. And if it’s the right fit, then I will do so.”

  1. Allen West is a great choice if you like flip flop in your face out of the context of reality politics. Surely we have better. Actually I would like to see them maybe choose Ohio’s Portman. He is an ignoramus and maybe we can see just how ignorant he really is. The rest we know.

Of note: Mr. Portman’s office sent me a hannukah greeting which to me was quite a bit offensive as it meant that my religion was listed by his office and being that we are in separation of church and state, I found that this crossed my privacy and religious liberties. Either way, I do not need a play to the line message from any senator or congressperson.

  2. I think Romney should ask Rick Santorum to be his running mate. That way he would appeal to both conservatives and liberals.
The main thing is to beat Obama.

  3. Now, let me think: who is/was this (what’s his name again?) Herman Cain?

He sounds like a conflation of Herman Wouk and “The Caine Mutiny”!

  4. Herman cain is not entitled to any opinion at all. The man mocked the office of the president, and our entire country for that matter with his presidential bid. Shame on him!
My personal opinion is that he only ran in order to promote his pizza company. Listen to how he answered the questions on the debates, the man is clueless and doesnt know A from B. And if anyone might assume this has any racial feelings behind it let them know that i consider President Obama to be highly intelligent and way cool!
