The Justice Department announced its support today for a proposal to reduce prison terms for nonviolent drug offenders. By shortening time behind bars, the proposal will save taxpayers an estimated $2.4 billion a year.
Attorney General Eric Holder noted that this proposal won’t guarantee shorter sentences for all drug offenders but “strikes the best balance between protecting public safety and addressing the overcrowding of our prison system that has been exacerbated by unnecessarily long sentences.”
The U.S. Sentencing Commission will vote on the proposal next month. Read more at the Huffington Post.

True to the profile of this radical extreme left-wing Obama Government, they sympathize the lawbreakers instead of the lawmakers.
How is the so called War on Drugs going? Did police searches, SWAT teams, or long prison sentences stop anyone from using narcotics? The only groups benefiting from the current state of affairs are the drug cartels and the law enforcement/prison lobby: drug prices are made artificially higher by the law enforcement limiting the less tough suppliers while the demand stays the same – hence, major benefit to gangs and cartels; this seemingly noble drug fighting cause gives excuse to keep on inflated payroll and stroke the egos of hundreds of thousands of cops/prison guards who are too busy with with the profitable War on Drugs to actually police/protect people’s safety and property – instead they enjoy illegal searches and no knock SWAT warrants of the wrong addresses. Look back to the Prohibition days – it’s much more effective to regulate than to prohibit completely. This should be the tea party as opposed to the democratic party cause.
