A security van stopped traffic in Hong Kong when it spilled the equivalent of millions of dollars of cash across an eight-lane road on Wednesday. It appears many people nearby were unable to resist the temptation to make an easy cash-grab of the crisp, fluttering 500-dollar notes.

Local reports say some $2 million is now missing.

“Many people picked up cash and then left,” said a man at the scene of the money spillage. However, others restrained themselves and made the moral move.

“One old lady picked up cash and gave it to the police when they turned up,” the witness added.

It is unclear how the money fell out of the van in the first place.

“We believe the money was dropped,” said a local police officer, but added that cops “cannot rule out any possibilities at this moment.” Read more at the New York Times.
