redskinsThe tumult over whether the Washington Redskins should change their team’s name or not got another wrinkle when The Onion posted an article about the matter that uses two anti-Jewish slurs and two adjectival stereotypes to describe Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his stance that his team’s name is respectful of Native Americans.

The question being debated is whether The Onion crossed the line or if it is allowed in the name of “humor.”

Here is The Onion’s article:

Denying widespread claims that the franchise is being offensive or disrespectful, the Washington Redskins’ kike owner announced Monday that he remains steadfast in his refusal to change the team’s derogatory name. “The Redskins represent 81 years of great history and tradition, and it’s a source of pride for our fans,” said the hook-nosed kike, stressing that the team’s insulting moniker is “absolutely not a racial slur by any means.” “‘Washington Redskins’ is much more than just a name. It stands for strength, courage, and respect-the very values that are so intrinsic to Native American culture.” The shifty-eyed hebe went on to assure fans that he will do “everything in his power” to preserve the team’s proud heritage.

  1. The Jets are way overrated and going nowhere in a hurry! They stink and I cant understand why their fans keep getting all excited!

  2. did you read about them that they are changing their name – THEY ARE DROPPING THE “WASHINGTON” from their name ‘cuz they’re embarressed to be associated with Washington (DC)

  3. Get a life! It’s satire! We have bigger things to worry about! Over the top? OK, maybe a bit. But in the scheme of things, between the Iranian threat, budget cuts to yeshivas, burgeoning anti-semitism around the world, etc, I can live with this.

  4. Um, I think you’re mistaking satire for simple humor.

The Onion piece is brilliant, brave satire, which reveals the paucity of Dan Snyder’s defense of the “Redskins” name.

  5. As much as I despise their tact, they were trying to make a point. In doing so, they were trying to prove that the name of the team is as offensive as the negativity associated with the steriotypical slurs (in this case Jewish ones).

I get the gist of the article, but it was done in poor taste.

  6. If you’re familiar with the Onion’s style, this is the usual. They are equal opportunity offensive to everyone, and I belive most of their writers are Jews.
(Hence the ability to properly make fun of ourselves)
