HORROR: New York Set To Legalize Abortion Up To Birth

Both chambers of the New York state legislature voted Tuesday on legislation to enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion in state law and eliminate protections for preborn babies until birth, in votes set to mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

The state Senate voted 38-24 in favor of the so-called “Reproductive Health Act” Tuesday evening, the Albany Times-Union reports, a bill that has repeatedly cleared the state Assembly in years past but been blocked by the formerly-Republican Senate. Following the Senate vote, the Assembly passed it 92-47.

The bill declares that “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion,” erases the state’s recognition of preborn babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims, removes abortion from the penal code entirely, and allows licensed health practitioners other than full doctors to commit abortions.

“We have a president who’s made it very, very clear that he wants to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins declared before the vote. “Today, here in New York, we are saying no […] and we’re not just saying no. We’re saying that here in New York, women’s health matters. We’re saying here in New York, women’s lives matter. We’re saying here in New York, women’s decisions matter.”

The Times-Union suggests the bill would allow “late-stage” abortions only if the mother’s “health” is endangered or if the baby is deemed non-viable, but the New York State Right to Life Committee warns that the bill would go much further in practice.

Declaring abortion a “fundamental right” opens the door to invalidating “any limits on abortion” and “mandat[ing] that everyone take part in the culture of death,” the group warns. The bill would also prevent pregnant women whose babies are killed in violent attacks from seeing justice, and have the effect of “authorizing infanticide” by repealing the requirement that a second physician be on hand in the event that an attempted abortion past 20 weeks yields a live infant.

The bill is also part of a broader trend of left-wing states codifying a “right” to abortion in anticipation of a future Supreme Court ruling that could reverse Roe, restoring states’ ability to ban abortion themselves and automatically banning it in the handful of states with pre-Roe bans still on the books.

“To see New York pass a bill so that right is protected, is just a dream come true,” said Sarah Ragle Weddington, an attorney who represented Norma “Jane Roe” McCorvey in the original case. The Times-Union does not mention that Weddington’s former client became pro-life in 1995 and dedicated the rest of her life to opposing Roe.

New York’s Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has vowed to promote abortion as part of “the most progressive agenda this state have ever seen,” is expected to sign the bill. (LifeSiteNews)

  1. Retroactive abortion!!! When will that come into existence? We need retroactive abortion to be enacted by our representatives. All the trashcans (Askans) should lobby the NYS legislative and executive branches for this historical and momentous addition to our laws. Retroactive abortion for everyone.

  2. All signs entering New York from all crossings should be changed. It should say in big letters: WELCOME TO SEDOM!
With gay marriage, transgenders, gender neutral bathrooms, X for gender on birth certificates, partial birth abortions, State controlled curriculum in schools, etc… even Lot, in his time, wouldn’t of settled in New York when given the chance by Avraham Avinu! Even Noach would of ran for the hills.

  3. B”H just like the Torah does!

    Ohelos 7:6

Up until birth abortion is mutar (in select cases to be decided by a Rav not the government)

    • Are you so foolish to think that that’s what they are legalizing? (This is referring to cases where the woman’s life is in danger!) This is about women deciding to kill a baby right before its born for her own personal benefit (like she thought it was a girl & found out otherwise, or she learns that the baby isn’t in perfect health, or she simply isn’t interested in caring for a child.) regular murder.

…And for all other ignoramuses out there. Maybe read up on what the baby goes through during this process. (& please dont get your info from planned parenthood – who convince young women that its ok.

      • “ike she thought it was a girl & found out otherwise,”

Do yo u really think that is waht happens?

2 days before giving birth a person finds out it is a girl?

Do you think people wake up one day thinking “Hey I have some time between my Yoga and latte, what should I do? Hey! maybe today is a good day for an abortion”

how many people do you know who have asked a Rav for an abortion ?

    • The mishnah is saying that if you can ONLY save the mother’s LIFE by killing the fetus you do so (as the fetus is rodeph)If you have another to get the fetus without killing it you would have no hetter to do so

This law is saying that for sake of the mother’s health (a very broad term…) you can kill the fetus even if can be safely taken out by a caesarian or other method. Here the doctors deliberately kill the fetus before the abortion even if they could safely deliver it. That is NOT what the mishna is discussing

Up until birth abortion is mutar (in select cases to be decided by a Rav not the government)

Incorrect. Abortion is always assur. In select cases of sakana it is allowed.

  4. Shmuel,

From the mishna it is clear that the only reason that the baby can be killed in that case is because the baby is a rodef. Very different from saying the baby is not considered a living being. Very.

    • That is not clear at all. Perhaps you didn’t make it to the end of the mishna ” יָצָא רֻבּוֹ, אֵין נוֹגְעִין בּוֹ, שֶׁאֵין דּוֹחִין נֶפֶשׁ מִפְּנֵי נָפֶשׁ:”

It is only a nefesh once it is (mostly) born.

Again, that is not to say abortion is always mutar.
But that is between the patient and their Rav not you (unless you’re the Rav) and certainly not the government

  5. I always thought the Blood Libel was false! The very idea that Jews would kill a non-Jewish child and use his blood to make bread — preposterous!
But orthodox politicos made it seem true. You supported or abstained the destroying of non-Jewish fetuses in order that you can “hondle” with your political cohorts to get money to teach Torah, which is compared to bread

    • When Orthodox-Jewish-community-political-activists supported & promoted many liberal oriented candidates, I VERY HIGHLY DOUBT that ANY of those activists, Chas V’Shalom, PURPOSELY wanted the liberal guys to be in the government so that they would, Chas V’Shalom, kill non-Jewish babies in abortions!! Rather, as they themselves often explained, they promoted the Democrat-Party-liberal candidates for what they would do FOR US. In other words, they promoted them because they determined that they would get desperately needed (often monetary) assistance for numerous institutions & programs in OUR communities.

Regarding the problem that these super liberal candidates are going to vehemently promote abortion and Toeiva and many other severely terrible things, these activists felt:

“WE CANNOT WORRY ABOUT THAT!!” “ALL THAT WE KNOW IS THAT OUR MOSDOS NEED THIS AND THIS AND THIS, SO THAT IS OUR PRIORITY!!”

      ———————————————————-

Needless to say though, this callous narrow view of priorities is very wrong, and many times, Rav Avigdor Miller, ZT’L, repeatedly vehemently thundered against it:

“ . . . AND OUR WORST ENEMIES ARE THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!! AND WE DON’T CARE HOW MUCH MONEY THEY GIVE TO OUR YESHVOS!! WE DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT KIND OF MONEY!! ALL THAT WE CARE ABOUT IS THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN!!”

    • “Yes, this huge Chillul Hashem is extremely sad. Many times though, Rav Avigdor Miller, ZT’L, repeatedly vehemently thundered against this phenomenon (of supporting liberal politicians who promote abortion and Toeiva and many other terrible things):

“OUR WORST ENEMIES ARE THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!! AND WE DON’T CARE HOW MUCH MONEY THEY GIVE TO OUR YESHVOS!! WE DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT KIND OF MONEY!! ALL THAT WE CARE ABOUT IS THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN!!”

  6. There were some fellows in shul schmoozing carelessly after the 1973 Supreme Court Roe v Wade
R’ Yaakov Kamenetsky was greatly perturbed and aggrieved
He said this shows cheapening and Lack of sensitivity of human life

    • when kids were being thrown out of torah vadass dorm for getting caught with a obscene magazine. Rav Yakov defended them. and yet who stands up for kids being thrown out today! but have fun with your tidbit quotes.

  7. disgusted,
    רחמיו על כל מעשיו

We cannot permit ourselves to even make such cheshbonos
    הנותן חיים לכל חי

  8. It’s murder and the punishment is more severe for B’nei Noach than for Yidden. One of the sheva mitzvos B’nei Noach is not to commit murder for which the punishment is death.

  9. Thank you to Daniel Rosenthal, for voting to get rid of the law, requiring you to save a baby who survived an abortion. And also get rid of the crime of slipping a pregnant woman a poison that only kills the baby.
So much for a mother’s “right to choose “

  10. If only all these Liberal murders mothers would’ve had abortions the world would be a lot better place today. It would be nice if any politician maybe a Simcha Felder could ask thos to Coumo before he signs the law-MAYBE YOU’RE MOTHER SHOULD’VE HAD A ABORTION…
