2010News anchors are grappling with a New Year’s problem — how do they say “2010”? Is it “two thousand ten” or “twenty ten”?

If you speak on TV for a living, it’s not a small issue, says NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan.

“Anybody who’s on the air this week will have to figure out how to react to the number 2010,” he wrote on his blog just before the ball dropped in Times Square.

No new policy memos have been issued by his bosses, he says, and other anchors he’s been listening to all week have been saying it both ways.

Kiernan, who does the popular “In the Papers” feature, says he’s opting for “twenty ten.”

“As my interim reminder, I changed 2010 to ’20-10′ in broadcast copy” that he reads off the teleprompter, he wrote.

“I’m betting . . . a month from now ‘twenty ten’ will be comfortably routine,” he says.
