How Google Has Decided That Mitt Romney ‘Can’t Win’

romney-cant-winGoogle’s mysterious search algorithm has apparently decided that it does not rate presidential contender Mitt Romney’s chances of winning the Republican nomination.

When you type the phrase ‘Romney can win’ into the search engine, it responds with the message ‘Did you mean: Romney can’t win?’
Google has said the suggested correction is not an intentional slight against Romney, but it’s not likely to be appreciated by the GOP candidate.

The former Massachusetts governor is the only candidate to suffer from the search engine glitch.

‘Our spellcheck feature is automated, and while no algorithm is perfect, we’re always working to improve our search quality,’ a Google spokesman told Hotsheet.

‘Last year, we launched roughly 500 improvements to our search algorithm.’

Romney has consistently come near the top of polls, but has been unable to establish himself as a clear front runner.

The latest CBS News/New York Times poll shows him with 21 per cent of support, four points being Herman Cain.

It is not the first time that Google’s search engine has been accused of taking a political stance.

From 2003 until 2007, when ‘miserable failure’ was typed into the search bar, the official White House biography of George W Bush came up.

That result was believed to have been a ‘Google bomb’ brought about by people manipulating the results by linking to the page.

It is not thought that Romney is the victim of a similar stunt.
