huffington-post-founding-editor-roy-sekoffThe Huffington Post is planning to launch an Israeli website, founding editor Roy Sekoff told Israel’s Channel 2 on Wednesday.

Sekoff said that the move is part of HuffPo’s road map for opening foreign sites, sometimes creating them in local language. “With so much innovation in Israel, we had opportunities to work with many Israelis,” Sekoff added.

Sekoff said that AOL, which paid $352 million for the Huffington Post in 2011, also owns other internet and video firms in Tel Aviv, which has given them a foothold in Israel. In Israel, AOL has acquired Adap.tv, 5min Media, Relegence, Yedda, Quigo and ICQ-developer Mirabilis.

As for when the Israeli site will open, Sekoff said, “It will happen soon.”

In the interview, Sekoff said the Huff Po plans to be in 10 international markets and that it’s push into video will open up the democratized content model further.

He said reader comments now total 265 million on its site.

  1. Just what Israel needs, another left wing hateful website added to all the rags printed, only to demonize Israel. Does it ever stop? This is the ideaology it invites in.
